What is a CSO?

The Oncology Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group has worked together with the Commission on Dietetic Registration to create a Board Certification for Registered Dietitians in Oncology Nutrition. The first exam was given in 2008. CSO is the credential abbreviation for Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition. A minimum of two years of clinical practice with documentation of 2,000 hours of practice experience in the oncology care setting is required. How to Become a CSO

Steps to take:

  1. Consult the CDR website for up-to-date information and the timeline. For additional questions, please call the Commission on Dietetic Registration at 1-800-877-1600 x5500.
  2. Register for the test.  Sign up to take the exam here.
  3. Study for the exam using Test Specifications/Content Guidelines identified from the item writers and others.
  4. Sit for the exam, offered on the computer at testing centers around the country.  The exam is now being offered year-round.
