Nutrition Access and Cancer Health Outcomes
New Study Documents Lack of RDNs in Outpatient Cancer Centers
A new study by researchers including Academy members has found that registered dietitian nutritionists are not routinely employed in outpatient cancer centers where more than 90 percent of all cancer patients are treated. The study, "Inadequate Nutrition Coverage in Outpatient Cancer Centers: Results of a National Survey," found there is just one RDN for every 2,308 cancer patients in ambulatory settings. The study, published November 22 in the Journal of Oncology, was based on an online questionnaire developed by the Oncology Nutrition dietetic practice group and distributed via ON’s electronic mailing list.
