Webinar: The Role of the Oncology Dietitian in Lymphedema

Lymphedema affects more people than MS, ALS, AIDS, Alzheimers  and Parkinson's COMBINED. There are a lot of people suffering with this condition including a significant portion of cancer patients. As oncology dietitians, we can help to screen people who will be at risk and to advise them how to get the proper care. We can also help to discuss with our patients how diet can help improve their condition.

This topic is very timely as The Lymphedema Treatment Act has been passed by the senate with the aid of their key spokesperson, actress, Kathy Bates who has lymphedema as a result of ovarian and breast cancer treatment.

Objectives

  • visualize the lymphatic system and it's main roles regarding fluid management, immune support and digestion
  • demonstrate how a malfunctioning lymphatic system impacts the individual
  • state 10 key strategies to help people reduce their risk of developing lymphedema
  • confidently explain to their clients the role that nutrition plays in the management of lymphedema
