This month Sara Estabrook was interviewed by member volunteer Francesca Maglione. Sara is the Policy & Advocacy Leader.
Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois
Where do you live and work now? I work in Memphis TN and live in Collierville TN
Where did you receive your nutrition degree? I received my BS in Nutrition at Illinois State U and my masters at the University of Texas/Austin
Why did you get into oncology nutrition? I started in oncology by working an oncology med surgery ward and then was offered a position over several oncology clinics
What is your favorite thing about your job/career? I love working with my patients because I believe the cancer dietitian truly makes a difference in their survivorship
What current topic in oncology nutrition is an interest to you? My favorite area is head/neck
What advice would you give new dietitians? I would counsel new dietitians to gain experience in a comprehensive care hospital first
What are a few of your hobbies? My hobbies involve anything outside: running, biking, hiking
What is your favorite food? My favorite foods are Brussels sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables
How do you relax after a day of hard work? love to swim after a long day at work
Do you have any future/long term career goals? I hope to continue working with Public Policy and the Academy
